Lindy Hop

Until right now I've been focusing on literature and language and right now I have decided to bring a focus to dance since in this field the US has also a lot of achievements. Lindy Hop originated in the 1920s and 1930s and changed together with jazz. It was especially popular in the swing era and is known as the jazz dance.

The dance is very universal. It can be wild, spontaneous and unpredictable, but also it may show well-thought and sophisticated movements. The most important thing in this is that t must be danced to the music and both partners must enjoy it.

It is know as a cultural phenomenon that broke through cultural and racial barriers that gained great popularity in spite of racial segregation. Although the history of the dance is not fully clear and yet discovered, it is fully certain that the dance originated from African rhythms and movements with European structure in dance.

In popular culture

There are also two variations of this dance: Double Lindy and triple Lindy. Lindy Hop featured in many videos, films and even books in the people culture. Marilyn Manson used it in her music video "Mobscene", in 2002 it appeared in the music video to Elvis Presley vs. JXL, 2007 in Christina Aguilera's music video "Candyman", and in many others, which I will list under the post.

The dance was even present in the Simpsons episode Homer vs. Dignity aired in 2000, in which Mr. Panda pranks the zoo by making Homer dance Lindy Hop with other animals in panda's disguise.

Also Stephen King places a situation with the dance in his novel 11/23/63.
