Beginnings of American music

First American music in fact was not American. It was brought there by Puritans and Spaniards. The dominant genres were psalms and other sacral songs which were sang a capella. At first it was used to evangelize native population and then it was developed into mass conducted by choir for colonizers.

Apart from religious music people developed America's own folk music which was firstly dependant upon Great Britain's and European's. Colonizers very often were borrowing melodies from the islanders, they even borrowed the melodie from "God Save the Queen" for the first draft of their own anthem. The most iconic instrument of American folk music is banjo other frequently used instruments like violins, drums and flutes.

That was a few informations just for the introduction.

Stay sharp and see you soon.
